Wednesday, July 10, 2019 - 6:00pm to 8:00pm
Join us for a night of non-fiction writing and history with author Lincoln Paine!
Lincoln Paine is the author of five books and more than a hundred articles, chapters, reviews, and lectures on maritime history. His books include the award-winning The Sea and Civilization: A Maritime History of the World (Knopf, 2013), Down East: A Maritime History of Maine (Tilbury House, 2000), and Ships of the World: An Historical Encyclopedia (Houghton Mifflin, 1997). He has been a volunteer with, and served on the board of, The Telling Room, a nonprofit writing center in Portland, Maine, that focuses on young writers ages 6 to 18.
Wednesday's session will have two areas of focus:
First will be on less personal writing, such as articles, instructions, essays, The Maritime History of Lake Tahoe, the Truckee River, and Pyramid Lake. For these, organization and clarity of expression are critical.
Second will be on writing that encompasses a more personal nature, such as letters to the editor, op-ed pieces, complaints, thank yous, condolences, apologies, notes to teachers, forged doctors' notes, and how to reveal emotion while keeping one's emotions in check.
